James Oliver was born in Centralia, Washington in 1888. He attended the University of Washington from 1906 to 1911. He showed an early talent for painting which he pursued throughout his youth concentrating on watercolor painting. Oliver experimented with printmaking while at the university and concentrated on this medium when he moved to New York. Oliver taught art at New York University from 1927-1966. |
